Welcome Home Bob and Doug!
If you have been following along you would have read that watching the SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo-2 mission launch from the famous LC-39A launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Florida helped re-ignite my love for space and space exploration. Seeing astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken take off on the first manned US space launch since the end of the shuttle program was an inspiring sight. I like many have been following along with NASA and SpaceX as they worked on the International Space Station and on Sunday, August 2 both astronauts returned home officially ending the first crewed mission of the Commercial Crew Program.
I would like to wish both Bob and Doug a big thank you for taking on the dangerous mission to test pilot a brand new space craft and for returning crew launching capabilities to the United States with the help of SpaceX. If you have ever watched an interview with Elon Musk you know he is one of us, a nerd when it comes to technology and space exploration. He has helped revolutionize the industry and make drastic leaps in rocket technologies since he founded the company in the early-2000s. Elon Musk deserves a big thank you as well for returning these capabilities to the United States.
The return home was an incredible thing to watch, the return along with launch are the two most dangerous parts of a mission to space. A lot could have gone wrong and thankfully nothing did. The splash down was a success and both Bob and Doug returned safely. Watching the entire procedure was eye-opening. I never seen a splashdown live and to see the whole thing live was something I did not expect.
